Walks and Trails at Smedley Park

Friday, November 6

Stephen Hinds has once more graciously offered to lead us on a walk at Smedley Park. We will meet him there on Friday, November 6 at 2 pm. Rain date is 2:00 on Friday the 13th. Here is his description of the walk, which is about a mile long on mostly flat surface:

We’ll walk across the athletic field where the Franklin Paper Mill had been located. I’ll mention some facts about the mill. We’ll of course see lots of trees in various stages of color and identify some of the more native trees.

The piece of land we’re going to explore is basically a peninsula where the Crum almost makes a complete circle. We’ll cross one or perhaps two bridges over the Crum, which is aglow with colorful leaves floating on the surface.

And here is more from Stephen re: meeting us and how to dress:

We will meet at the far end of the parking lot on Paper Mill Road. This is across the trolley tracks (it says RR crossing) from Baltimore Pike. Go all the way to the end to the cul de sac. At the far end of the cul de sac is a pedestrian bridge. We’ll meet at the pedestrian bridge.

Unless it’s a pouring rain like we had a few Sundays ago, I’ll plan to be at the pedestrian bridge at 2pm on the 6th. If it’s lightly misting or sprinkling, I’ll be there. Remind them to wear comfortable footwear, dress for the weather and perhaps use bug spray!

Please sign up so we know how many are going, and please indicate if you need or can offer a ride. Please be sure to give your phone number in case there is question about the weather.
